I hope that after all of this, Nintendo decides to continue the SMRPG series by making SMRPG 2 and continue the OG Paper Mario series by making a new game in the same style as TTYD to go alongside the Mario & Luigi series rather than just going back to having Mario & Luigi as the only Mario RPG series (well, aside from the Rabbids games, but I personally don’t care for those games). If Mario can have multiple sports series, then he should also be allowed to have multiple RPG series as well.

Funny how despite being in the thumbnail, there was no conversation about M+R despite experimenting a lot and increasing the rpg scope, this is understandable because tactic rpgs are trash

I'm glad Mario RPGs are back on the right track since Paper Mario the Origami King was a spark of hope for me, after that we got Super Mario RPG Remake, Paper Mario the Thousand-Year Door remastered and now Mario and Luigi Brothership (I don't want to include Mario + Rabbids because I think that series is dead thanks to Ubisoft and how toxic the work environment is and that company is sinking faster than the titanic, even with the first game I didn't want to buy it because Ubisoft sucks) I know people want to see a Mario and Sonic platformer but I think the next step for a Mario RPG is a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog done by ATLUS because I think a Mario and Sonic RPG would make more sense than a platformer if Nintendo and SegaSammy comes to some agreement with that idea.

we need a remaster of bowsers inside story- as a kid i had the game but i always got stuck on the FIRST LEVEL (im still not good at platforming) and i got very discouraged very quickly- now that im older id love to play it but i lost my DS and finding one online is pretty expensive (im not a snitch but im personally not a big fan of playing emulators)

replayed the first 3 games in the series last year its great to see the series come back but i still have never played dream team only game in the series i have not played i should try and get it at some point

i just hope that they stick with it! lord knows i want a ttyd styled story/battle system/world/characters and a great visual style like TOK or the TTYD remake also more mario & luigi! how i've missed that series. i hope brothership is great!

Alright but what if the next Paper Mario game is a full on return to form with everything you love about TTYD and overall everything you could ask for. But Kerstis with you for the entire game in it and shes just as horrible as she was in Sticker Star.

Unrelated, but I'm surprised there has yet to be a Kirby RPG. The franchise is iconic enough to draw in both new and old fans, there's plenty of pre-existing characters to make into party members and enemies, the franchise has grown a lot in the last few years and Kirby has gone on to be one of Nintendo's most popular.

Honestly, in the same vein that Echoes of Wisdom will be to Link's Awakening, a Yoshi style Super Mario RPG (yes I really wanted a sequel with Yoshi) would probably sell just as well given proper marketing and content. Again, there is a lot of hype for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

I'd like to mention that while AlphaDream went under because the remakes didn't sell (though it is speculated that the issues began far back in Dream Team's time), the remakes themselves are really good. Superstar Saga's is much better than Bowser's Inside Story's, as the former modernizes the original GBA title with mechanics added as early as PiT and as late as Paper Jam and great graphics, while the former struggled to find anything worth adding as an improvement, so it's rather an alternative way to experience the game, similarly to a romhack that changed stats around. The thing that people who think the remakes don't mean anything is that it isn't JUST the remakes. It's the fact that the remakes kept their original designs and characters, something the M&L remakes were NOT allowed to do. It's the fact that they announce the remake of RPG alongside the next mainline Mario, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and said mainline title HAS new, original characters and species. It's the fact that in the spawn of a SINGLE YEAR, all 3 RPGs were brought back into the spotlight and not just with ports, but with made-from-the-ground-up projects, be it remakes or new games. The fact that Nintendo both ENDED and STARTED a direct with a Mario RPG because they were that confident and sure of the project, which is a huge contrast to Color Splash's "oh yeah this exists. Next announcement please!" reveal, and Origami King's "just drop it on twitter" reveal. And lastly, the fact that Thousand Year Door, the big no-no for Miyamoto, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo, the big scary bad title that can't ever be referenced nor brought back in any way in the modern Paper Marios (and as Miyamoto was involved, not even Paper Jam either), the fact that THAT game got remade, means a lot towards how Nintendo sees Mario, the RPGs, and the importance of having original characters, original stories, and good gameplay (unlike Sticker Star and Color Splash. Fuck those games).

The only way Papwr Mario turns back into the old school style and not continue with the modern style is if the remake outsells origami king and that's very very unlikely to happen, that's just a fact

Dear Reader Somebody must have said this to you before with the Super Mario RPG Remake , the Paper Mario TTYD Remake and now I will say it with M&L Brothership B-U-Y T-H-I-S G-A-M-E Pleaseeeeee...... let Nintendo know that we want our Mario RPGs back the way they were with an interesting story , fun and unique characters with cool designs , with a backstory and giving them names , worlds that make the Mario Universe so rich and alive And tell them that those are the kinds of stuff we want to see in their RPGs set in the Mario Universe

It's definitely a good time to be a Mario RPG fan

One thing I'll say though: For as much as I would love to have Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi, Paper Mario and Mario + Rabbids all kept alive and have at least a game per generation, it does seem to be too much MARIO RPG for a single system. Even if they are different from each other, they are not radically so, so by supporting all of these at the same time, Nintendo runs the risk of either cannabilization of each other, or just commitment of their own manpower in making those titles, even if they heavily rely on outside help. Honestly, I think the realistic best case scenario here would be if Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario are kept alive, while the other two are given up, by the simple fact that Nintendo would own 100% of everything in that game, and approving and developing them would be far easier. I hope I'm wrong though!

lets look at it this way, with the 3 great playable paper mario's, 2 mario and luigi's 1 new one coming soon, a remake of the classic that started it all, some rabbids crossovers and even some additional sports games on switch online. marios selection of RPG-likes is immaculate

I never realized the creative differences that you highlighted here. Why I stopped liking Mario RPG’s. My first Mario RPG was paper Mario 64 followed by superstar Saga. And I honestly fell in love with the bean being kingdom. I realize now what drew me to those games was how willing they were to go outside the normal scope of Mario’s galaxy. In a way, even as a little kid, the reason I liked Mario was because of all the fantastic worlds. Super Mario 64 had a new painting around every corner and that was wondrous to my little brain. What world would we find next? But nowadays, it is very true that the majority of Mario games, at least RPG titles, seem to have very firm walls. We kind of know what we will get. Which is fine, but it does lack that wonder.

I've played Super Mario RPG, every single Paper Mario game (although I didn't beat every Paper Mario game), and only Superstar Saga in the Mario and Luigi series. I'm so happy that all three game series are back and in such a big way. I personally favor Super Mario RPG out of them all, so I would absolutely LOVE to have a direct sequel to it. Also, I very much like the unique and varied partners of Thousand Year Door. One of my favorite game tropes is when an antagonist joins your side and they absolutely nailed that with Vivian. I would kill to see her appear in more games, but of course, that doesn't mean that I don't want to see new partners too! As for Mario and Luigi, well, I didn't get much into the series, like I stated before, but I really did enjoy Superstar Saga. With Brothership on the horizon, it's high time I jump back into the series and see what I've been missing out on all this time.

i think it should be noted, some former employees at alphadream are confirmed to be involved in the development of brothership (from what ive heard)

also the fact marketing treated Super Mario RPG and Paper MArio The Thousand Year Door like new game, there were no mentions of them being remakes

The new boss fights in SMRPG and TTYD give me a lot of hope for the future of those series’. That Arte Piazza and IntSys were able to push the established battle systems so far with new and interesting takes on their mechanics speaks volumes about the potential for future games.

The best part about all of these Mario RPGs is it's fun to imagine the future, due to the popularity. In both new and old fans. Like this video and other videos say, the future of not only Mario RPGs, but Super Mario as a whole are bright. Imagine a Super Luigi RPG. And/Or a sequel to Super Mario RPG. Imagine a Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass. Or a Super Paper Mario remake. Imagine a Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time remake. Or a Mario & Luigi game with Wario & Waluigi. Or one with Donkey Kong. Or one with Peach playable. The best part about all of this is NONE of the ideas here can happen: And I would still be happy! As long as they hold the same charm and creativity as TTYD HD, SMRPG HD, Mario X Rabbids and the upcoming Brothership, than I'll be happy.

I know tactics rpg are a bit different and people don't like rabbids but I wish people would stop hating on them when both games were so good. I've played paper mario, ttyd, superstar saga and I still think M+R is great for what it is. I've also played X-com 1 and 2 and Phoenix point in the past and I think that M+R puts such a great spin on the genre. I can see it in the comments and its so stupid 😒

The fact that all of these games (specifically, RPG, Thousand Year Door, and Brotherhood) were made within a year of each other (and if we count Sparks of Hope, that's technically a year and a half) is nothing short of wild! Nintendo is at the top of their game with the Mario RPGs at the moment, and it would be suicidal to even CONSIDER going back to Sticker Star's style of gameplay after this.

As much as I want all of these RPG experiences to be their own style and come out after one another, part of me wants the consolidation, the culmination of them all in a Legendary Saga. A Mario RPG that takes everything they learned from Classic RPG, Paper, M&L, and M+R. Stories that can be funny and meaningful, partners that can be swapped out in battle with Mario and Luigi as a consistent third party to both drive the narrative and aid with puzzle platforms. A skill tree equivalent to the badges that have flexibility to choose, but also to discover through world exploration. Tactical positioning in battle to allow variables to spice up encounters while still keeping the action commands. The ability to summon past partners through use of a star meter as nod to the older titles, but also, having assists from mainstay cast members like Daisy, Waluigi, etc… All of it as an all star, best of the best, Legendary Saga of Mario’s RPG past, present, and future.

I never got to play the first two paper Mario games since I wasn’t born or way too young. But I do wish I got to play super power Mario for Wii but I was a Lego game kid. And when the 3DS Mario and Luigi games came out I never played since every one kept saying it’s not as good so I just never bothered I wish I never listened cuz I probably would’ve enjoyed them. But now I played Paper TTYD switch remake and it’s pretty good, now I’m play Mario RPG and I’m having a blast. So I’m excited for more Mario rpgs. I always loved rpgs but for whatever reason the Mario one never interested me since people online always complained. I definitely need to play paper Mario 64 and Mario and Luigi gba on NSO.

It's honestly absolutely surreal that Nintendo brought back ALL THREE Mario rpg series. RPG remake, TTYD remake, and a new M&L... I still can't believe it's happened.

After watching a lot of videos of this nature i do wonder what motivated nintendo to go back into the rpg games of old.
